It frustrates me when people conflate ancient history with modern times without regard to different contexts. Any persecution that happens in modern Egypt is really not the result of some things that happened 4000 years ago. Egypt is just awful now. If anything it’s a huge come down from Ancient Egypt. It’s pretty ignorant to decide that in 4000 years attitudes have remained exactly the same even as the culture itself has evolved, changed and become unrecognisable in every aspect.

Egypt has been a cultural melting pot for thousands of years. It’s been ruled by Egyptians, Lybians, Nubians, Hyksos, Greeks, Romans, The Byzantines (a culture arguably different from either Rome or Greece), Turks, Arabs, the French and the English. No culture survives that intact. The final remnants of any Ancient Egyptian culture lies in Nubian traditions and the dying liturgical language of the Coptic Christians and even that has been corrupted by Greek. Nothing stays the same for 4000 years, not a language, nor a culture, nor a religion and certainly not a perspective or opinion. 

Stop fucking bringing up Ancient History when discussing the shitheap that is Modern Egypt.
